Coorparoo Ward - Cr Fiona Cunningham

Requested a meeting with Cr Cunningham but this was rejected on 29 June. We were invited to send information to her office.

Gabba Ward - Cr Trina Massey

We met on 20 August and have had detailed email exchanges since then. She has demonstrated a commitment to making improvements for active transport in her ward.

Cr Massey has already consulted with the community and installed bike parking throughout the ward.

She is also actively supporting protected bikelanes for:

• Annerley Rd - Cr Massey and Cr Johnson have been nominated to establish a consultation group for this bikeway. They are seeking to have existing documents released as a first step.
• Melbourne St - currently at design stage with final designs to be released end 2026/early 2027 (State Govt funding)
• Hampstead Rd - leading a project as part of long term plan to connect Vulture St and Dornoch Tce
• Montague Rd - final study is outstanding and Council has rolled this over for 3 years - will need State Govt funding
• Vulture St - will keep requesting Council to provide updates on the plans released in 2024

Keen to get improvements to intersections on:

• Ganges St/Dornoch Tce and Hardgrave Rd/Dornoch Tce
• Cornwall St/Ipswich Rd - commencing design and traffic study using Suburban Enhancement Fund
• Noble St - Cr Massey and Cr Johnston sought to have this intersection signalised but Council has rejected. They will keep trying.

Lighting issues:

• We have been requested to send these issues to the Ward office for forwarding to Council for review

Montague Rd bus stop refuge - work signed off recently

Enoggera Ward - Cr Andrew Wines

We have requested a meeting with Cr Wines numerous times in writing between 11 May and 24 August.

Holland Park Ward - Cr Krista Adams

We met on 26 August and provided a written summary of the meeting on 1 September. We have not received a response confirming our summary yet so comments are unconfirmed.

The following issues were discussed with Cr Adams:

• Traffic calming is being installed in the Emma/Crown St areas which will improve an informal connection from the V1 to Logan Rd
• There is a general plan for a painted bike lane on Birdwood Rd (to Logan Rd from V1) - though we advised a protected bike lane would be much safer - no firm dates were given (2027??)
• She appeared receptive to installation of bike parking on council land in her Ward
• Removal of zebra crossing at Logan Rd to Glindemann Park - and no signalised lights due to cost. We expressed deep concern with this plan and provided other options that would be safer.
• Lighting - she will seek to have lighting installed in the park between Laura and Laurie Sts at Tarragindi
• Unsafe locations which were highlighted by women and which were raised included Seville Rd crossing at Cav Rd and Pine Mt Rd. We were asked to provide other specific locations.
• Conversion of slip lanes to wombat crossings was suggested by us as an easy safety improvement in many locations
• Lack of shade along stretches of Logan Rd - she will look to see if any planting is possible but thought future development sites in the Precinct Plan would not be appropriate due to potential damage from construction
• Lack of info about bikeway closures and detours - she will seek to have the BCC website updated and maintained with this info - we will ask Cr Murphy to directly advise BUGs of impending closures and detours

Macgregor Ward - Cr Steven Huang

We met on 2 September and provided a written summary of the meeting on 7 September. We have not received a response confirming our summary yet so comments are unconfirmed.

We discussed a large range of safety issues within the Ward with Cr Huang.

• He advised more traffic calming has been removed than added during his time - due to complaints from residents who do not like the associated noise from motor vehicles. We provided the Austroads Guidelines re traffic calming measures.
• The entrance to Worrell St (road section of the V1) was discussed re cars parking opposite and overgrown shrubbery creating hazards
• He believes that mandatory helmet use is the reason more people don't ride bikes - we noted this was not identified in the survey
• Bike lanes (green paint) are only added to roads in the Ward when they are widened - and this is part of the development approval process where this is a condition of the approval - but we highlighted a recent development where this did not occur and sought to understand why
• We stated that protected (or segregated) bike lanes are the only safe type of bike lane - particularly on high speed roads that are in Macgregor Ward
• Miles Platting Rd, School Rd, Gardner Rd were all discussed as being unsafe for riders
• A suggestion was made for consideration - ‘rumble strips’ on the edge of painted bike lanes in lieu of proper protection, to alert drivers when they cross into the bike lane (suggested a trial on Arise Boulevard)
• Bike parking and lack of lighting were discussed and the lack of cycling related questions in the Qld driver’s license testing process

One project being supported by the Councillor:

• Missing connection on Prebble St is at design and costing stage (shared path)

Marchant Ward - Cr Danita Parry

We met on 5 August and provided a written summary of the meeting on 6 August. We have not received a response confirming our summary yet so comments are unconfirmed.

We discussed:

• Kedron Brook masterplan - (NB it had not been released when we met). We asked about lighting issues in that plan and whether they are being addressed, likewise with connections to the bikeway.
• She is working on the safe schools precinct around Padua College and hopes to install wombat crossings, slower speeds etc around the school zone
• Bike parking - further info provided but no commitments have been made yet

Moorooka Ward - Cr Steve Griffiths

We met on 9 July and provided a written summary of the meeting on 25 July. We have not received a response confirming our summary yet so comments are unconfirmed.

Cr Griffiths appears to be:

• supportive of the Annerley Rd separated bikeway
• supportive of installing additional lighting in parks etc but has had difficulties obtaining approvals and funding from Council
• due to other priorities in the ward, not supportive of using the Suburban Enhancement Fund to install bike parking

Morningside Ward - Cr Lucy Collier

We met on 23 July and provided a written summary of the meeting on 27 July. We have not received a response confirming our summary yet so comments are unconfirmed.

Cr Collier is supportive of improved lighting in parks, and South BUG shared her petition to install lighting in Vic Lucas Park. She may also be seeking to have lighting installed in the Love Street Park area.

Other issues discussed with no commitments made:

• A heat map of locations where people rode through the ward was provided to help identify missing connections where safety could be improved
• Lack of safe routes to Colmslie Recreation Reserve, on Lytton Rd, Hawthorne Rd, Wynnum Rd and Riding Rd
• Lack of bike parking throughout the Ward

Paddington Ward - Cr Seal Chong Wah

We met on 17 July and provided a written summary of the meeting on 25 July. We have not received a response confirming our summary yet so comments are unconfirmed.

Cr Chong Wah is actively supportive of:

• Sylvan Rd bikelanes which have been designed and funded - with delivery slated for 2028
• Protected bikelanes on O'Connell Terrace and Herston Rd - no plans yet
• Additional lighting in parks but Council is not supporting this due to inappropriate locations for solar power - and expense of retrofitting lights

Tennyson Ward - Cr Nicole Johnston

We met on 2 July and have had detailed email exchanges since then. These comments are confirmed.

Cr Johnston has committed to support:

• Separated bike lanes on Annerley Rd - partially funded
• Wharf St, Chelmer bikeway - which has some funding - not sure if for planning or delivery
• Oxley Creek transformation shared path - which has $312,000 funding
• Improving the safety of the Fairfield Rd roundabout - but no current Council support for this project
• She is currently consulting within Council and with South BUG on existing and proposed bike parking locations in the ward
• She supports active transport ideas for Sherwood Rd, Pamphlett Bridge, Cardross St overpass and protected Fairfield Rd bikelanes (only Cardross St overpass may have Council and Fed Govt support)

Walter Taylor Ward - Cr Penny Wolff

We have requested a meeting with Cr Wolff numerous times between 11 May and 7 September, both in writing and via phone calls.

Wynnum-Manly Ward - Cr Alex Givney

We have exchanged emails and will be requesting a meeting.

Cr responded on 18 May and sought Ward data – this was provided on 18 May. Further email with the following info received on 18 September

• Draft Wynnum, Manly and Lota Foreshore master plan due to be released in a few weeks – people recommended to provide feedback via formal process
• Pritchard St cycling link across railway line planned for current financial year
• Wynnum Rd infrastructure to stay on list of future priorities – Cr Givney to liaise with Cr Atwood around coordination
• Specific locations and safety concerns welcomed
